boredomresearch are thrilled that their film Gentle as Moss on Stone received the Rob Knox London Film Festival, Best Editing Award on 6th September 2025. The festival took place at the Central Picturehouse in London with an amazing array of films screened from new and rising talent in the film and TV industry – whilst raising awareness of knife crime and social issues.
Gentle as Moss on Stone, was commissioned by Natural Resources Wales (NRW) – Natur am Byth! Arts Engagement Programme – the largest natural heritage outreach programme in Wales to save species from extinction. The film was produced in collaboration with NRW and Plantlife ecologists and local community groups, where boredomresearch set out to reconnect young people with two species of rare moss.
The film depicts a retired bryologist who reminiscences about the mosses he found at the top of a hill in Powys, Wales. Each fictional moss he imagines has been co-created through boredomresearch’s workshops with neurodiverse young people. Boredomresearch set up creative moss labs with the young people, bringing nature to them, enabling the participants to produce creative visuals and narrative-based work for the film. This project demonstrates the transformative power of creative engagement to build connections between people, place and ecology.
The Natur am Byth! Arts Engagement Programme is funded through the The National Lottery Heritage Fund and the Arts Council of Wales.
